Another Great Harvest in the Books
We are just wrapping up another successful harvest albeit a quick one! We brought in our first fruit earlier than ever this year and finished before October which is another record broken.
This year, we had trouble sourcing Sauvignon Blanc and other white grapes from vineyards we have worked with in the past. A frost earlier in the spring did some pretty harsh damage. Entire vineyard blocks up and down the coast were wiped out, leaving yields down by 20% if not more. The North Coast of Sonoma County, an AVA we typically source a lot of our grapes from, was particularly hard hit. Frosts are pretty common in Burgundy but they’re a rare occurrence in these parts and have taken both vineyard managers and winemakers by surprise.
Searching for new AVAs and vineyards to work with also led to the addition of some new varieties to our roster: Pinot Gris from Clarksburg and Cabernet Pfeffer from Cienaga Valley. We’re excited to see how these new wines evolve!
