Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups apple cider

  • 1 cup dry white wine

  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme

  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Stove-Top Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then coat with flour. Heat oil in a large oven-safe skillet over high heat. Sear chicken on one side, then remove to a plate.

  2. Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, thyme, and sage; cook for 30 seconds more.

  3. Return chicken to the skillet, then pour in apple cider and wine. Bring to a boil, then cover and transfer to the oven. Bake for 30 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.

  4. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta, and drizzle with pan sauce.

Crockpot Method:

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then coat with flour. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over high heat. Sear chicken on one side, then remove to a plate.

  2. Add onion, garlic, thyme, and sage to the slow cooker. Pour in apple cider and wine. Place chicken on top.

  3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours.

  4. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta, and drizzle with pan sauce.
